Your posture influences how efficiently your body moves and functions.

We take an individualised approach to posture correction, using the principles of Advanced Biostructural Correction (ABC™) alongside other chiropractic techniques to restore the body's balance.

Research has linked certain postural changes with alterations in muscle activity, movement, proprioception, pain and disability. Physical stress and strain are an unavoidable part of everyday life, these can come from obvious injuries such as accidents, falls or sporting injuries, but it can also develop gradually through everyday habits. Long periods of sitting, working in sustained positions and repetitive movements can all place repeated demands on the body that, over a prolonged time, can do as much damage as an acute injury.

Over time, these stresses can influence the way the spine and other parts of the body move and function. When an area is restricted or under strain, the body can adapt by changing how it moves and distributes load. These compensations are a normal part of how the body responds to physical demands and can initially help us continue with our daily activities. However, when these patterns persist, they can contribute to altered movement patterns, muscle tension, joint loading and posture. 

Advanced Biostructural Correction™ Principles

Advanced Biostructural Correction™ adjustments aim to correct the structural and postural misalignments in your body, specifically those misalignments in the spine that your body cannot self-correct. We use a combination of deep body stretches and spinal adjustments, mostly performed with the patient standing.

  • Anterior pelvic tilt

FAQs

1. If I don't have pain, do I still need to worry about my posture?
 

Pain is only one way the body can tell us that something isn't working optimally, and is often the last indicator. The body can adapt to physical stresses and structural changes without producing pain straight away, but often it's the 'straw that broke the camel's back' that suddenly brings people into the clinic. While the body is self-healing, bones that move in directions where there are no muscles that can pull them back, cannot be self-corrected, leading to postural and often insidious functional decline. So, yes, pain is not a reliable indicator of what's actually going on in the body.

2. Why do I keep having the same pain?

A lot of approaches focus on reducing pain, but don't address the foundational aspects of the body. Think of your spine as the central framework of a building. Your arms and legs rely on that framework for stability and efficient movement. If the foundation or framework becomes unbalanced and unstable, the rest of the structure has to adapt to compensate. In the same way, changes in spinal position or movement can influence how forces are distributed through the shoulders, hips, knees and feet. If this isn't addressed, the same issues can come back quicker than anticipated.

3. Can sitting at a desk really have an impact on my posture?


Spending long periods in the same position can place repeated demands on your body, particularly when combined with limited movement throughout the day. This doesn't mean there is one “perfect” sitting position, but regularly changing position and moving throughout the day can help reduce sustained loading. If you spend much of your day at a desk, an assessment can help identify whether your working habits may be contributing to your individual movement or postural patterns.

4. Why do my shoes wear down differently on each side?


Uneven shoe wear can sometimes reflect differences in the way you load your feet and legs when standing or walking. However, shoe wear alone cannot tell us exactly what is happening throughout the body. We look at it as one potential clue alongside your posture, gait, joint movement and overall movement patterns to build a more complete picture of how you are loading your body.
